Games & Sports

Facilities for table tennis, badminton, volleyball, tennis, basketball, hockey and athletics are available in the college. An annual inter-college table tennis tournament is conducted for a running trophy donated by Dr. T.S. Rukmani, ex-Principal of Miranda House.

National Cadet Core

Aims and Objects

NCC is not a military organisation. NCC training builds character, physique and instills a sense of discipline and duty.

Miranda House is affiliated to the 2 Delhi Girls Battalian NCC along with some other colleges.

The training is imparted during the first and second year of study (third year voluntary). Each year 120 periods of 40 minutes each are held (average 6 periods a week in term time). Besides this, annual summer training camps are also held. Other activities include mountaineering course, firing/shooting competitions, etc.

"B" and "C" Certificate examinations are conducted at the end of the first and second year NCC training.

The cadets selected on the basis of a high sense of duty and discipline and smart turn-out are permitted participation in the following activities, among others.

  1. Independence Day Celebrations
  2. NCC Rally
  3. Republic Day Camp
  4. Republic Day Parade
  5. The President's 'At Home'
  6. The Prime Minister's Rally

The best cadet on an All India basis qualify for award of NCC scholarship of Rs.100 p.m. for a year.

National Service Scheme

Miranda House N.S.S. unit functions under the supervision of 2 or 3 teachers. Its aims and objectives are to work among/with people; to bridge the gulf between the educated and uneducated masses; to develop a desire to serve the weaker sections of the community; to gain skill in democratic leadership. These aims are sought to be achieved through a variety of programmes by means of manual work; working with welfare institutions; educational work; production oriented work and work in an emergency. Each student volunteer is expected to devote 120 hours in one academic Year. Inter-college programmes/camp are also held. Prizes and certificates are awarded to the best volunteers individually or as a group. Volunteers are given a small allowance for refreshments during their project work.

At the beginning of the academic year, students may contact the teacher in-charge and fill up enrolment forms.

Women's Development Centre

A Women's Development Centre is functioning in Miranda House with financial assistance from the Department of Women & Child Development, Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India. The aims and objectives of the Centre are as follows:

  1. Promotion development and dissemination of knowledge regarding the role of women in the present social context.
  2. Development of programmes for creating social awareness of attitudinal changes.
  3. Career counselling and personal guidance.
  4. Co-relate the academic community and its surrounding society.
  5. Undertake studies, research & data collection on problems concerning women.
